Introducing It’s My Party, new Torbay-based business offering kids’ parties with a difference to local families. Natalie Ronan explains how it all came about.
It all started with our 8-year old’s birthday last year. We were racking our brains for ideas when Sean/Dad suggested a disco party at home. I admit I wasn’t convinced at first, but we couldn’t justify the expense of the typical pay-per-child party packages (especially with two younger siblings wanting parties too!). So, a disco it was. We got carried away, threw ourselves into it and created a mini-nightclub experience. It was so much fun for everyone! Word got around and we started getting requests to do the same for other people – It’s My Party was born!
We’ve been in Torbay for 10 years, and it’s really exciting to be able to offer our local community something a little bit different. Using my skills and passion for event planning, and Sean’s 20+ years in live sound and lighting design, we can offer a party experience that is both economical and hassle-free for the parents, and yet huge amounts of fun for the kids, with the opportunity to personalise the event with their own playlists and games.
You provide the venue, we’ll take care of the planning and bring the party to you! You won’t recognise the place once we’ve set up, using our lights we can create ‘Glitter & Sparkle’ and ‘Glow’ themes (an absolute favourite with the kids!), without needing any other decorations. Your young guests will be having a ball, and you’ll be relaxing – unless of course you like to dance, in which case there’s plenty of room on the dancefloor for everyone!
It’s a new year and a great start for It’s My Party, kicking off 2020…love how that just rolls off the tongue. First gig of the year… a 70’s themed disco 50th birthday party…glitter, glam, afro wigs and bell bottoms! We can’t take all the credit as it was the guests costumes and music that made it so awesome. The party came about through a referral which was fantastic- thank-you! We had an inquiry about an LED light up dance floor, which is something that we are not yet supplying, but what a cool idea. We looked into sourcing one and we were finding, like with any of the professional equipment, the cost doesn’t quite facilitate a house party budget, but more for the corporate/high events. It’s on the list of products we will be researching this year to grow our business. Anyways, to cut a long story short, we supplied a cracking ‘Classic Disco’ kit with an add-on disco ball that really set-off the party.
Excited to launch our new website, http://itsmyparty.co.nz/. We have kept it simple and easy to navigate. Get in touch- we are looking forward to hearing from you!

So the invites went out…’You’re invited to…. our son’s 8th birthday party! The commitment was made! The First party I (mum) have agreed to have at home since he was 1 year old! However, with 3 kids now, booking birthday venues has started to get fairly pricey, easily creeping up to $300 all in with cakes, gifts, partybags, decorations and that’s with a limited amount of kids attending, so there was always an agonising selection process, to decide which friends were on the list, and not forgetting the parties we had been invited to the previous year!
Anyway back to story… I didn’t pay too much attention to the number of invites my son gave out. Deciding to keep it simple, doing it on a Friday meant done dusted didn’t have to stress all weekend.☑️
cheap & cheerful look sharp neon style☑️
🎶 downloaded Spotify free trial with playlist so no need for Dj☑️
Oh and mustn’t forget a few bars of chocolate for dancing competitions☑️
Meanwhile Sean (hubby) whipped up the UV & disco lights /smoke machine and sound system. He transformed our kitchen and dining area into a mini nightclub…awesome.
5:30pm the kids rocked-up, then more arrived…. and then some more 😂🎶🕺We totalled 22 kids, plus some adults that stayed on. My teacher friend observed “Nat you have a class load of kids in your kitchen”!!! and you know what?
It was PUMPING!! The kids danced the whole time between grabbing food, games and preparing for the glow party!! Kids and parents were all really impressed and keen to do a disco party for their kids. So we have now set up this service.
